PROGRAMME OF MUSIC PORTSMOUTH BAPTIST CHURCH

On Friday 20th November 2009, The Solent Fellowship Band presented a concert at North End Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

The Band included a variety of items in the programme including, Dudley Bright’s March, “Assignment”, Barrie Gott’s Festival Arrangement, “Let There Be Praise”, Robert Redhead’s Suite, “Shout Salvation”, “The Blessing” (William Himes) and the Meditation, “Armadale” (Ray Bowes).

Individual items featured Dennis Rudd, the Band’s Principal Cornetist who played Peter Graham’s “Glorious Ventures” and the band’s Principal Tenor Horn, Callam Carter, who played Derek Jordan’s arrangement of the Rondo – Mozart’s 4th Horn Concerto. Dennis Rudd then joined with Aubrey Ford for a cornet and soprano duet, “The Cleansing Stream” (Erik Leidzen).

The Band also presented a number of seasonal items in the programme. These included, “Troika” (arr. Alan Fernie), “Yuletide Rag” (Richard Phillips), “Christmas Praise” (Noel Jones) and Robert Redhead’s Suite, “The Joy of Christmas”.

Reciprocal words of welcome and thanks were given by Rev’d Kieran Banks (Pastor, North End Baptist Church) and Bandmaster Chris Kennett.

Rev’d Banks also offered prayer, while Major Derek Smith read from Scripture.

The Band concluded the concert by playing Keith Ketteringham’s arrangement of “St Clements”. (TU).

PORTSMOUTH CITADEL CORPS, SUNDAY EVENING WORSHIP

On Sunday 25th October 2009, The Solent Fellowship Band, together with guest vocal soloist, Songster Ruth Unwin were the guests at Portsmouth Citadel Salvation Army Corps.
Major Lyn Hills (Commanding Officer, Portsmouth Citadel Corps) welcomed the band and congregation after Bandmaster Chris Kennett conducted an opening March, “Spirit of Joy” (Herbert Rive).

Following a congregational song and prayer, the band played Barrie Gott’s Festival Arrangement, “Let There Be Praise”.

An individual item then followed featuring the band’s Principal Tenor Horn, Callam Carter, who played Derek Jordan’s arrangement of the Rondo – Mozart’s 4th Horn Concerto.

Ruth Unwin then presented the song, “Part the Waters” (Charles Brown).

This was followed by the band’s playing of Robert Redhead’s Suite, “Shout Salvation” and Dudley Bright’s March, “Assignment”.

Ruth Unwin’s second contribution was, “It is a thing most Wonderful” sung to a traditional Newfoundland Folk Song.

The band then played “The Blessing” (William Himes) and the Song Setting, “Mid All The Traffic” (Len Ballantine).

Major Derek Smith read some verses of scripture.

The Band, supported by its Executive Officer, Major Geoff Chape (Southern Divisional Headquarters) concluded the concert by playing the 4th movement (Charter Fair) from Peter Graham’s, “The Haslemere Suite” and Keith Ketteringham’s arrangement of “St Clements”.

Major Lyn Hills thanked the band and congregation for their participation and attendance. (TU).
